Algarve coastal homes face a tougher mix than inland properties: salt-laden air, strong UV, summer heat and occasional Atlantic wind. The wrong specification ages faster, leaks heat into the house and needs more maintenance.

A good coastal window system is chosen for durability and comfort together — not only for how it looks on the elevation drawing.

PVC and thermally broken aluminium both work on the coast when specified correctly. What matters is corrosion resistance of reinforcements and fittings, colour stability under UV, and a frame that stays sealed after years of thermal movement.

• Ask for systems tested for coastal or high-exposure conditions.
• Prefer finishes and foils rated for strong sun — pale chalking and brittle seals are common failures.
• Match the profile depth to the glazing you actually need, not the thinnest option on the quote.

In the Algarve the priority is usually keeping heat and glare out in summer while staying comfortable in milder winters. Solar-control glass, the right g-value and a suitable Uw for the opening make a bigger difference than upgrading the frame alone.
